The Eastside Co- 4/28/15

We check out all the homes that come on the market on the Eastside .

This is a curated collection of the coolest and most interesting.

Some are architecturally significant, others fixers with potential or deals.

2737 Angus Street

It's hard to see but this master bedroom suite has a view South of the Silver Lake Reservoir. Click to see a larger image.

Who cares if you can hear the hum of Rowena Ave when you have a backyard with this much space. This is a larger lot than normal in this neighborhood.

This home is in the award winning Ivanhoe Elementary school district and is just north of the Silver Lake Reservoir.  Having a flat lot close to 12,000 square feet with views both north and south is very rare.  The pool, quiet street, off-street parking for more than four cars sweeten the deal even more . The house itself is a 4br/5ba with the Master Bedroom french doors opening south to the Silver Lake Reservoir. You can catch a glimpse of it now in the spring but it will be more prominent in the fall. The two second floor guest rooms have mountain views to the Northeast. This is a great home for a larger family, walking distance to the park with sections for the kids, runners and dogs both large and small.

2258 Hidalgo Ave

The builder gutted this century old home to provide a modern look & feel that Silver Lake has become well known for.

Behind the driveway gate is a long driveway that wraps around the house to a detached two car garage. The roof of which could become an outdoor deck.

2br/1ba with 1,800 sq/ft of living space.

After the remodel it's now:

4br/4ba with 2,750 sq/ft of living space.

I uploaded some photos from the original sale to give you some idea of what has been done...it's worlds apart.

Listing Price: $2,188,000

2416 Silver Lake Drive

Yeah that's the ever present Eames chair. But we dig the cement hearth, clerestory windows and floating light box that lights the ceiling. Not sure when the glass block came in but it does the job of bringing in light and keeping it private.

Everyone at The Eastside Co, loved the grain on these closets.

We really hope the new owner appreciates the detail on this counter top. It's in mint condition and the chrome outlines kick ass.

Here is a better shot of the floating lights in the living room.

And last and certainly not the least, is this mid-century beauty on the also in the Ivanhoe Elementary School district. This property was built Gilbert Leong in 1954.

This house has an extraordinary flow and feel to it. Making you feel like you're back in the 50's. They spacious floor plan is full of vintage details from the floating cement hearth to the kitchen built ins and garbage chutes.

This has deep roots in Los Angeles. Owned by Delbert E. Wong and his wife Dolores Wong, they both have incredible stories.

Delbert Wong, according to an LA Times article from 2013 states

"He was the first Chinese American graduate of Stanford Law School and the first Chinese American judge to be appointed to the bench in the continental United States." - LA TIMES

HIs wife, Delores, worked as a psychiatric social worker all over the country but her most satisfying contribution was to help fund and establish the first public library in Los Angeles Chinatown.
