Neighborhood Guide (Social Distance Edition): Silver Lake/Echo Park

Times are strange and a little tough these days, but we’re finding joy in staying connected with family, friends and some of our favorite local businesses in our favorite Eastside neighborhoods. Not all of the places we admire are able to be open for business at the moment, but here are a few in Silver Lake/Echo Park that we love to support during this time. Each one is currently offering pickup, delivery and/or social distancing service of some sort (check their websites, linked below, to see!).

There are so many great local spots to choose from. Let us know if there are any you’d like to share! And stay tuned for some favorites in the other Eastside neighborhoods, as well.

Silver Lake Wine

2395 Glendale Blvd

Let’s face it, wine (or any spiked beverage) is really helpful, especially now :) and these guys know how do to it. They have the perfect selection of artisanal wines, microbrews and sake, along with the most friendly and knowledgable staff to help you make your selections. We rely on them for regular restocking of the home bar.

Summer is here and it’s seemingly getting hotter by the day. Watch out weekend! Feels like the perfect time to stock up on soft serve ice cream. Their soft serve recipe is made from scratch, in-house, along with their selection of toppings. So good.

Skylight Books

1818 North Vermont Ave

There’s a good chance most residents on the Eastside are familiar with this place, and rightfully so. It’s the perfect independent book store with an amazing selection and equally amazing ambiance. The perfect spot to pickup new reads during quarantine down time.

Dinosaur Coffee

4334 Sunset Blvd

The daily fix is a must for us. (Gotta keep the “lack of caffeine” shakes at bay). Dinosaur has a good selection of beverages and pastries, their friendly staff is holding down the fort amidst the busy and new takeout format, and their location is perfectly placed on Sunset.

L&E Oyster Bar

1637 Silverlake Blvd

We used to frequent L&E for birthdays, weekends, or a random cocktail eve pre-quarantine. So happy we’re able to bring the goods home instead. It doesn’t have quite the hip setting as L&E but we’re able to make do.

Garage Pizza

4339 Sunset Blvd

For those times we’re feeling something a little less oyster and a little more carbo, we like to splurge at Garage Pizza. 18” New York style pizzas…even the cheese is just plain tasty.

Broome Street General Store

2912 Rowena Ave

We’re all about limiting the number of outings we have these days (safety first!), so it’s good to have a one-stop-shop option like Broome Street. It’s easy to find what we need in their highly curated selection of products (everything from personal care and fashion/accessories, to home goods, produce and more). Also good to know we can refuel on coffee and snacks while we’re there.

Taco Zone

1342 N Alvarado St

We could eat good tacos everyday of the week and Taco Zone has some of the best and it’s perfect for a quick drive by. Their suadero option is at the top of the list and their fresh salsa makes it even better
